Transport in Karachi disappears on CNG closure
KARACHI - Commuters in Karachi remained bewildered due to CNG closure as supply was stopped from 09 am on Wednesday.
Public transport also disappeared from roads since vehicles could not be refueled due to long queues at gas stations.
It is to be noted that more than 50,000 busses, mini buses and coaches in financial hub of country are being run by CNG. Due to scarcity of CNG, public transport remained unavailable and commuters faced severe difficulties as their daily routine was affected adversely. Taking advantage of the situation, the drivers of taxis and rickshaws raised their fares.
Source told that gas company announced two-day loadshedding but if the problem could not resolve, the period of loadshedding would be extended for third day too.
Sui Southern Gas Company on Tuesday rescheduled gas shutdown for CNG stations due to sudden tripping of compressors of different gas fields. The company is receiving short supply of gas causing depletion of line pack and low pressure in gas distribution network.
An official told that SSGC has decided to close down all CNG stations in Sindh including Karachi from 9am on Wednesday, March 14, till 9am on Thursday of March 15, 2012, followed by Saturday 9am, March 17 till Sunday 9am on March 18, 2012.
